We are pleased to announce the sixth national Caldicott Guardians Conference. The conference will be chaired and has been produced in association with Christopher Fincken, Chair, The UK Caldicott Guardian Council. The conference aims to bring current and aspiring Caldicott Guardians together to understand current issues and the national context, and to debate and discuss key issues and areas they are facing in practice.
“In recent years the need for guardians has become ever more important. Data about people’s experiences of health and social care has huge potential for improving services and discovering more effective treatments and ways to provide care. Those benefits will not be realised without public trust. The Caldicott Guardians are a powerful force for good by making sure that organisations behave in a way that is trustworthy.” Dame Fiona Caldicott National Data Guardian January 2017
The conference will focus on the key areas of developing your skills as an effective Caldicott Guardian, with hot topics, learning from experienced Caldicott Guardians, Caldicott Decision Making and understanding the legal context.
The conference will also discuss the competence requirements for Caldicott Guardians moving forward following Dame Fiona Caldicott’s recommendations in the National data security review, and the publication of the National Caldicott Guardian Manual. The National Manual for Caldicott Guardians was published in January 2017. Dame Fiona Caldicott stated that “I commend this manual, which has been produced by the UK Caldicott Guardian Council to help the guardians address their duties. I have had the pleasure over the years of meeting many guardians and I know that the role is sometimes difficult, but always interesting and rewarding. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Caldicott Guardians, past and present, for their excellent work.”
Delegates will also be encouraged to network with their regional network Caldicott lead and the role of the regional networks will be presented in a case study session.
