News and updates from todays Revalidation for Pharmacy Professionals Conference

The conference chaired by Martin Stephens LPN Chair Wessex Pharmacy & visiting Professor Portsmouth University will focus on implementing Pharmacist Revalidation. The Revalidation Framework has now been approved and the process will be introduced from March 2018.

Martin Stephens will deliver a session on How organisations can support pharmacists to deliver on the revalidation framework which will look at supporting pharmacists to deliver revalidation and improving appraisal and documentation systems.

Angela Alexander, Professor Emerita, University of Reading will do an extended session Reflective practice and learning for revalidation. This presentation will consider what the term ‘reflective practice’ means in terms of revalidation and suggest a way of using a reflective dialogue to demonstrate meeting the Standards for Pharmacy professionals. For those pharmacists who are also independent prescribers, associations between the Competency Framework for all Prescribers and the Standards will be highlighted.

Sue Ladds, Chief Pharmacist University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust & Chair, Association of Teaching Hospital Pharmacists will do a session on Managing performance concerns and supporting pharmacists in difficulty which will cover:

  • an overview of best practice guidance and principles of good practice
  • handling concerns about the performance of pharmacists
  • ensuring the culture and environment support effective pharmacy practice
  • will the new revalidation process identify performance concerns in pharmacists?
