Chaired by Tina Chambers Immediate past Chair of the Tissue Viability Society, Tissue Viability Consultant, Educator and Advisor and with an opening presentation from Susan Bowler Professional Advisor NHS England, this conference focuses on a practical guide to eliminating avoidable pressure ulcers, implementing the national stop the pressure campaign and monitoring progress against the NICE Quality Standard for Pressure Ulcers. Pressure Ulcers have recently been announced as a key priority area for the new patient safety collaboratives and pressure ulcer prevention is a key NHS Outcomes Framework Improvement Area.

The day will continue with practical case studies in reducing and preventing pressure ulcers, in depth extended sessions focusing on pressure ulcer grading and reporting including unstageable pressure ulcers, latest evidence on risk assessment, pain as a predictor of pressure ulcer development and factors associated with severe pressure ulcer development, and developing your skills in root cause analysis and investigation. The event will look at this issue of avoidability and discuss the latest evidence on what is actually considered unavoidable. There will also be a focus on the important issue of reducing “old” pressure ulcers and community acquired pressure ulcers.
