“Three years after publication of the Department of Health’s guidance ‘Positive and Proactive Care: reducing the need for restrictive interventions’, we are concerned about the great variation across the country in how often staff physically restrain patients whose behaviour they find challenging. This wide variation is present even between wards that admit the same patient group. In response to this, CQC is further strengthening its assessment of how and how often services use physical restraint; we wish to send a clear message to providers that we will be subjecting services where staff frequently resort to restrictive interventions to much tougher scrutiny.” Care Quality Commission July 2017

This conference will focus on the implementation of the NICE Quality Standard on Violence and Aggression which was published in June 2017. The new quality standard covers short-term management of violent and physically threatening behaviour among adults, children and young people with a mental health problem. It applies to settings where mental health, health and social care services are provided. This includes community settings and care received at home.

The conference will update delegates on national standards with regard to:

  • Anticipating violence and aggression
  • De-escalation
  • Prevention interventions
  • Using restrictive interventions

100% of delegates at our last conference on Violence and Aggression would recommend the conference to a colleague.
