Getting Started in Research: Practical Perspectives of Research Delivery

Research active healthcare organisations are safe, responsive and well led (The Care Quality Commission, 2020). This masterclass provides an introduction to the core principles of conducting research. You will focus on practical application of methods, processes and tools used to search, critically appraise and interpret the evidence, ready to apply in practice settings. Participants are encouraged to bring along their research ideas ready to translate into research ideas. Group work, practical activities, examples and discussions will be used to facilitate understanding and skills. The masterclass will have a distinctly practical focus with activities throughout designed to give experience and confidence in getting started in research. All research terms will be fully explained with no prior experience necessary.

Learning outcomes 
To familiarize participants with core aspects needed to undertake research in a clinical setting including:

  • Formulating the all important research question, why it’s worth spending time to get this right
  • An overview of common research methods aligned to your research question
  • The importance of Patient and Public Involvement in research
  • Illuminating the research process to bring your study to fruition
