Giving Evidence In Court

This Conference is now Closed

Find out more about virtual attendance

It is becoming an almost inevitable part of life in a healthcare setting that you will be asked to provide a witness statement or evidence to a court, either for an inquest, for the police, for a claim, or for court of protection proceedings. This masterclass will talk you through the must-dos when providing evidence, including your duties under the GMC and NMC codes of conduct. It will include practical examples of how to write a statement for each type of proceeding based on a case study, followed by tips on how to present that evidence orally in court.

Anyone who is involved in a coroner’s court, civil claim, court of protection proceedings or asked to assist the police, and those who support the witnesses should attend.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding of the different roles of the criminal, civil (claim), court of protection and coronial courts
  • Understanding of your duty to assist the court
  • Key points to consider when preparing a statement for each type of court
  • An understanding of how your evidence can be used in court
  • Points to consider when verbally giving evidence in each type of court
