Improving Radiology Reporting: Digital Imaging Summit 2019

This Conference is now Closed

Follow the conference on Twitter #radiologyreporting

This conference focuses on the important issue of improving radiology reporting turnaround times. The national review of radiology reporting within the NHS in England by the Care Quality Commission found huge variation in radiology reporting highlighting trusts that had backlogs of 33,400 unreported images (the oldest images had been waiting to be reported for eight months).

The conference will also include an update on the role of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology Reporting following the RCR statement that “In the future, New technologies, machines learning and AI will play a significant role in radiology reporting”, and the development of diagnostic imaging networks as outlined in the NHS England Long Term Plan.

“The reality of imaging backlogs and delays is incompatible with national ambitions”

Royal College of Radiologists May 2019

“Unreported images and imaging backlogs can have implications for clinicians, trust, and ultimately patient safety. This includes delays in diagnosis which can cause stress and anxiety for patients, potentially leading to poorer outcomes… Imaging backlogs and the use of auto-reporting to manage them can result in missed diagnoses.”
