IV Therapy Summit: Difficult Venous Access & Improving Practice with Uncompliant Patients

Wednesday 4 Dec 2019

The Studio Conference Centre, Manchester

Follow the conference on Twitter #IVTherapySummit

This conference focuses on IV access: managing uncompliant patients, and patients with difficult venous access. Difficulties in IV access due to individual patient factors or patients with difficult venous access often lead to repeated failed attempts which can result in delayed diagnosis and treatment.

“Many healthcare professionals have been involved with patients who were unable to cooperate with IV therapy and vascular access procedures. The uncompliant patient in healthcare is perhaps the most challenging aspect of this clinical specialism. Learning strategies to help the patient feel more involved and supported is key.”

Andrew Barton, Chair, NIVAS & Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Vascular Access and IV Therapy Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, June 2019

“Non-compliance in a treatment regime can bring many challenges. In outpatient antimicrobial therapy, non-compliance can bring an array of difficulties not seen in the general hospital population.”

Fiona Nadin, Clinical Nurse Specialist OPAT, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, February 2019
