Join us for an inspiring and informative conference that aims to support you and your team to recognise and respond to maternal deterioration, improving care for expectant mothers and their new-borns.
We will explore how MEWS, NEWTT2 and the Perinatal Optimisation Care Pathway have been adopted in organisations across the country and the impact we have seen in recognising and responding to deterioration in maternity care. Case studies will be used to review guidelines and protocols for sepsis management and postpartum hemorrhage, as well as strategies to train and educate frontline staff for effective communication across teams.
"Many people are still not receiving the safe, good quality maternity care that they deserve”
Care Quality Commission, The state of health care and adult social care in England 2022/23 October 2023
“For the first time a common early warning score is being introduced to help to identify deterioration across all maternity units in England. The Maternity Early Warning Score (MEWS) tool will ensure that all staff and those cared for by maternity services benefit from a clear evidence-based system – and a common language to help escalate concerns. It will soon be rolled out across the country following a successful pilot”
The Oxford Patient Safety Collaborative, AHSN, 2022
“While maternal deaths are largely preventable with quality healthcare, they have either increased or stagnated in most regions of the world in the past five years. On average, a woman currently dies during pregnancy or childbirth every two minutes.”
BMJ February 2023
