Nurse Prescribing

Nurse Prescribing conferences provide national updates and practical case studies on how to develop and maintain prescribing competence, how to develop effectiveness in post qualification practice, and ask why nurses are not always prescribing post qualification.

“Independent prescribing is defined as: ‘Prescribing by an appropriate practitioner (which currently includes doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, podiatrists and physiotherapists), responsible and accountable for the assessment of patients with undiagnosed or diagnosed conditions and for decisions about the clinical management required, including prescribing medicines’…There are many potential benefits for patients, commissioners and providers…Independent prescribing can also enable new ways of working to improve quality towards delivering safe, effective services focussed on the patient experience. It facilitates partnership working across professional and organisational boundaries within commissioning/provider landscapes and with patients to redesign care pathways that are cost-effective and sustainable” NHS England March 2015
