“The introduction of electronic prescribing is not only known to reduce medication errors, but also frees up time for staff by moving away from archaic paper-based systems.” Health Minister Stephen Hammond November 2018

“There is evidence that electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems will improve safety for patients, reducing the risk of harm and ensuring high quality efficient patient care which is as safe as possible.” Andrew Davies, Director of Hospital Pharmacy, NHS Improvement November 2018

“New electronic systems will help hospital trusts move away from handwritten prescriptions. This will:

  • reduce potentially deadly medication errors by up to 50% when compared with the old paper systems
  • build up a complete electronic record
  • ensure fast access to potentially lifesaving information on prescribed medicines
  • reduce duplication of information-gathering”

Department of Health November 2018

“Because we are one NHS, our health system is uniquely placed to become the most advanced health system in the world – one where technology addresses the user need – making care better for patients, but just as importantly making life better for staff.” Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health July 2018

“The Department of Health and Social Care believe the roll out of electronic prescribing systems across more hospitals could reduce errors by 50%.”BBC News 23 February 2018
