How do we create excellence in patient care and experience?
This conference focuses on Always Events®. Always Events®, first introduced in the US by IHI and the Picker Institute, focus on ensuring events that matter to patients happen every time for every patient. Always Events® can be tailored to your service and should be developed in consultation with your patients learning from what your organisation or service does well and what elements of care your patients value most. The aim of always events is to create a positive approach to improving patient care.
The IHI and Picker Institute describe an Always Event® as “a clear, action-oriented, and pervasive practice or set of behaviours that provides the following:
- A foundation for partnering with patients and their families;
- Actions that will ensure optimal patient experience and improved outcomes; and
- A unifying force for all that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to person and family centred care.
Always Events® are aspects of the patient experience that are so important to patients and families that health care providers must perform them consistently for every patient, every time.”

The conference will provide a guide to always events methodology and learning from case studies of those who have successfully implemented always events in their service. There will be an update on national developments from NHS England, the IHI and the Picker Institute and a look at the development of the always events® recognition programme led by IHI and Picker Institute
