This conference focuses on the important issue of Non Medical Prescribing in Mental Health. The conference will look at national developments in nurse/non medical prescribing in mental health, improving and maintaining prescribing competence, non medical prescribing within specialist mental health clinics, liaison and crisis services, physical health services, auditing your prescribing practice, monitoring the side effects of medication, reducing medication errors and supporting the expansion of Nurse/non medical prescribing practice in Mental Health.

A recent study found that -Mental health nurse prescribing has been established in some areas in the UK for quite some time…. The majority of participants believed that the inclusion of prescribing in mental health nurses' roles improved the nurse–patient relationship, and five themes including the relationship, concordance, power, treatment approach and 'unprescribing" emerged. Trust was highly valued, and clients found nurses easier to talk to about their medication than doctors. Rather than detracting from the nurse–patient relationship, results from this study suggest that nurse prescribing enables mental health nurse prescribers to provide more holistic care than previously.” Mental health nurse prescribing: the emerging impact J. D. Ross PhD MSc 2 JUN 2015.

The conference, which includes national updates, extended in depth sessions and case studies will focus on developing your skills as a non medical prescriber in Mental Health.
