“To realise the full benefits of digital medicine, the NHS will need to develop senior managers capable of leading on the digital agenda.” The Topol Review, Preparing the Healthcare Workforce to deliver the Digital Future February 2019

“Digital transformation will enable us to make big strides towards forging a lifelong relationship between people and the NHS…Virtually every aspect of modern life has been, and will continue to be, radically reshaped by innovation and technology – and healthcare is no exception. Sustained advances in computing and the democratisation of information are driving choice and control throughout our daily lives, giving us heightened expectations around digital services.. We will increase training in digital capabilities for the health and care workforce and focus on attracting excellent technical expertise and skills, particularly in ‘newer’ digital fields so that our workforce can continue to deliver our technology strategy.” NHS Long Term Plan January 2019

“Digital tech has the potential to transform our health service in the future, but the right tech, right now, will improve lives, and save lives. So the work must begin now… Getting the right leadership, people who understand tech, who have tech skills themselves, involved in management decisions is vital to getting the right mindset in place. It’s the first step to training up staff, building up digital capability in hospitals and GP surgeries.” Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health  February 2019

“This is an exciting time for the NHS to benefit and capitalise on technological advances. However, we must learn from previous change projects. Successful implementation will require investment in people as well as technology. To engage and support the healthcare workforce in a rapidly changing and highly technological workplace, NHS organisations will need to develop a learning environment in which the workforce is given every encouragement to learn continuously. We must better understand the enablers of change and create a culture of innovation, prioritising people, developing an agile and empowered workforce, as well as digitally capable leadership, and effective governance processes to facilitate the introduction of the new technologies, supported by long-term investment” The Topol Review, Preparing the Healthcare Workforce to deliver the Digital Future February 2019
