Masterclass: Managing Stress & Promoting Resilience amongst Doctors
Tuesday 17 March 2015
Hallam Conference Centre, London
The recent BMA survey reveals “Only one in five doctors are satisfied with their current careers... 50 per cent of respondents described their morale as low or very low, up from 40 per cent last quarter.” BMA December 2015
This one day interactive masterclass provides valuable ‘time out’ for participants to consider their personal resilience at work – where they currently stand and how they might increase their resilience in order to improve both their effectiveness and their own wellbeing. Although the approach is towards positively increasing resilience, it also includes concrete techniques for coping with stress.
Doctors and other healthcare professionals grapple daily with the professional challenge of maintaining resilience and high standards of performance in the face of ever increasing pressure in the workplace. This challenge – and its impact on the health of doctors – was highlighted in the Department of Health Report on Mental Health and Ill Health in Doctors (February 2008). It has also been recognised more generally in organisations in the issuing of the Management Standards for Work Related Stress by the Health and Safety Executive.
