Dr Rosaire Gray speaking at todays Falls conference

Rosaire GrayRosaire Gray

Dr Rosaire Gray reviewed why risk assessment tools alone do not prevent falls and are no longer recommended by NICE.  Dr Grey reviewed the recommendations from the Cochrane collaboration in 2012, NICE, Patient Safety first campaign and the RCP on multifactorial risk assessments and interventions to prevent falls in the hospital setting.

Rosaire said that reducing length of stay in hospitals down to 10 days through the falls prevention programme and that most patients falls are due to anticipated physiological.

Dignity, privacy and rights need to addressed and are hard to assess and that single interventions do no work and its based on multifunctional interventions.

"Measurements such as gait and mobility need to be more monitored in falls" Said Rosaire.

The fall safe care bundle- all patients need a bundle and interventions need to be tailored.

NPSA Report in 2011 based on this created post fall protocol and have this displayed around the wards.
