Update from the Tissue Viability Society

Heidi Sandoz Lead Nurse for Wound Care, Accelerate CIC London and Chair, Tissue Viability Society spoke at today’s Eliminating Avoidable Pressure Ulcers conference on:

• risk assessment of pressure ulcers: latest evidence

• pain as a predictor of pressure ulcer development

• factors associated with sever pressure ulcer development

• implementing the findings in practice

Abstract of Heidi's presentation:

Pressure ulcers are a largely preventable subsequence of immobility and ill health. Understanding the risks of when developing a pressure ulcer might be likely can help all disciplines of healthcare staff ensure preventative measures are implemented, for those patients that need it. Recent research into risks for both the acute and community populations has resulted in the development of a new risk assessment tool and an understanding of how the indicator of pain is associated with pressure ulcer development. Our understanding of risks and the results of this research will be highlighted in this presentation.
