Jim Thomas, Programme Head Workforce Innovation, Skills For Care discussed the skills for care guidance on establishing a positive and proactive workforce.

Jim said we should stop simply training people and instead develop a knowledge and skills approach whereby staff understand the reasons behind the approach. 

Recognising that physical restraint should be the last option. We must always promote positive and person centred relationships.

Jim outlined questions professionals should be asking themselves when considering physical restraint, these can be found on page 15 of the following document and jims slides below
