Implementing the national mortality case record review programme in practice
Dr Paul Johnston,
Mortality Lead and Renal Consultant, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
Dr Paul Johnston qualified from Edinburgh Medical School in 1985.  He trained in nephrology in Leeds before being appointed as a Consultant Nephrologist at The Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust in 1996.  He developed an interest in Medical Education and completed a PGCE at The University of Plymouth in 2005.
Paul was appointed to The Royal Cornwall Hospital Mortality Review Committee shortly after taking up his Consultant post!  Over the years he has developed an increasing interest in Mortality Review and has been instrumental in improving the RCHT Mortality position.  He is now Mortality Lead for the Trust and leads the Mortality Review Oversight Committee and has developed the Mortality Review and reporting processes for the Trust in line with National Guidance on Learning from Deaths.
