News and Updates from Violence and Aggression: Ensuring Adherence to the 2017 National NICE Quality Standard
This conference will focus on ensuring adherence to the 2017 National NICE Quality Standard on Violence and Aggression. The quality standard focuses on short-term management of violent and physically threatening behaviour among adults, children and young people with a mental health problem. It applies to settings where mental health, health and social care services are provided. This includes community settings and care received at home.

- understanding the root causes of violent or aggressive behaviour
- working with people to identify triggers and early warning signs
- how can we ensure a more positive supportive approach?
This will be followed by a timely presentation from Dr Anthony Bleetman Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Specialist Committee Member Violence and Aggression National Quality Standard NICE on 'Violence and Aggression: The NEW National Quality Standard' and will discuss;
- anticipating violence and aggression
- prevention interventions
- using restrictive interventions
- monitoring progress against the NICE Quality Standard in practice
Dr Bleetman's Biography
I am a consultant in Emergency Medicine. I received my PhD for developing safety standards for body armour. I was on the clinical guidelines group for NICE guidance 25 and I have been working with the Police and mental health services evaluating the safety of use of force interventions. I am a member of a Ministry of Defence scientific advisory committee dealing with less lethal weaponry.
