NHS Improvement Patient falls improvement collaborative

NHS Improvement are supporting NHS providers to reduce injurious inpatient falls and increase the reporting of patient falls.

Aims of the programme

Falls cause distress and harm to patients and pressures on NHS services. Evidence from the Royal College of Physicians suggests that patient falls could be reduced by up to 25 to 30% through assessment and intervention.

This 90 day programme, involving 21 volunteer trusts, will help us to improve the management of falls in an inpatient setting.

We want to use the programme to re-energise the falls prevention improvement movement and ensure that providers have the information, skills and tools to reduce injurious inpatient falls and improve reporting and care.

Our support offer

We're supporting trusts taking part in the collaborative to adopt improvement methodologies and creating a learning community for them to discuss the changes they're implementing and share their findings. We'll share the learnings and resources from the collaborative here on our website.
