 Is your organisation clear about why?

  1. Organisational process (Strategic)
  2. Options
    1. If happy with current PAS or Pharmacy Stock Control evaluate their e-prescribing
    2. If not happy with current PAS or Pharmacy Stock Control look for best 1 or 2 to cover these three areas
    3. Work with a minimum number of system
  3. Phone system users, arrange visits for ward / department based staff (Champions & Laggards)
  4. Commit to a system(s), project plan and resources (set up, basic roll-out, development / on-going):
    1. Staff programing (populating database, writing SOPs & grammar rules, testing time)
    2. Equipment to order, install, test
    3. Training of users
      1. Identification of super users
      2. Not too early not too late.
    1. Communication plan
  1. Regular review
  2. Fine Tune the roll out plan (Quicker the better)
  3. Roll out
    1. Self Contained Units first
    2. Super Users briefed
    3. Pharmacy / IM&T input for 1st & 2nd prescribing / drug round for a number of shifts
    4. Daily / session review / organisation wide feedback
    5. Where resistance encountered:
      1. Address
      2. By-pass & reschedule
      3. Exceptions / work arounds – to be avoided
    6. Quick wins:
      1. Tracking / data / reports
      2. Incident investigation
