Ann Casey' Biography:

Ann's nursing career spans over 33 years with her specialist clinical background in renal transplantation, dialysis and urology nursing where she was a ward sister for 8 years.  Ann was Head of Nursing for Surgery & Anaesthetics before moving to a Corporate Senior nurse post for Clinical Standards at Barts and The London NHS Trust.  In the latter post Ann was the facilitator for increasing research capacity and capability, lead for medicines management and setting nursing establishments.

Whilst undertaking an MSc in Health Service Management at City University Ann joined the team developing The Safer Nursing Care Tool (SNCT) - an evidence base tool to set nurse staffing establishments for acute in-patient wards, which was validated and published in 2006. The SNCT was updated in 2013 and is used widely in the NHS and non NHS Hospitals. She is currently leading on the development of a SNCT for Children’s and Young Peoples wards.

 Ann is the National Lead Nurse supporting the implementation of the SNCT for South of England. More recently she has worked closely with Ruth May NHS Chief Nurse for Midland and East and NHS England in agreeing the best practice for safe nurse staffing within the remit of Action Area 5 Compassion in Practice. She is a member of the NHS England 'Safe Staffing Oversight Group' . She was a member of the  NICE ' Nurse Staffing Advisory Committee' developing the safe nurse staffing guidelines for adult in-patient wards.

Paul Fish' Biography:

Paul Fish is an experienced nurse with a clinical background in general and specialist intensive care nursing before moving into a variety of roles including resuscitation officer, head of resuscitation and consultant nurse. He has an interest in nursing workforce issues and the relationship with nursing outcomes and has been lead for nursing workforce at trust level since being Associate Director of Nursing in County Durham.

Paul is currently Deputy Chief Nurse at University College London Hospitals but will soon be moving on to take up the post of Director of Nursing, Quality & Patient Experience at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
