The NICE guidance on Safe Midwife Staffing in Maternity Settings

• implementing the NICE Guidance for Safe Staffing in maternity settings

• ensuring all organisations have a plan for all midwife care to be delivered by registered midwives and includes step-by-step guidance on determining the number of midwives required and how to be flexible to unplanned variations

• staffing levels and patient safety: should there be guaranteed staffing levels?

• implementing the NICE guidance in practice

Jacqueline has vast experience in healthcare provision. She has worked as a midwife and a nurse and held senior positions in education, leadership and management in the NHS and higher education. Jacqueline is currently seconded to NHS England as the Head of Maternity. Her substantive role is Director of Midwifery and Divisional Director of Nursing for Women’s and Children’s services at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. She is visiting professor at Kings College London and London South Bank University. Her experience has led to her leading and influencing national maternity standards and guidance. In addition to her current role at Imperial, she influences healthcare strategically, nationally and internationally through research, education and publications. She is frequently invited to speak at national conferences. Jacqueline is a member of the British Journal of Midwifery editorial board and is a council member of the Maternity and Newborn Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine. She was appointed to the London Clinical Senate Council in 2013.
