The TaMHS team outlines the development of the TaMHS model within Leeds at the Adolescent Mental Health Services Conference today

The TaMHS project in Leeds  delivers evidence based, early intervention, specialist mental health support into clusters of schools across the city. The project has progressed in phases, with an initial pilot, a 1st phase expansion and now a 2nd phase expansion (2013 – 2015). The current expansion delivers to 133 schools, across 13 clusters within the city. This final phase of the project has established TaMHS as a city wide service with an annual combined investment of £2million.

Effective specialist mental health support in schools
Improving whole school practice to enable specialist support
Implementing the recent guidance on mental health and behaviour in schools

Effective specialist mental health support in schools
The presentation included an outline of the 4 key elements of the Leeds TaMHS model, and the processes of commissioning and evaluation.

Improving whole school practice to enable specialist support
The delegates heard a brief introduction to the work of the TaMHS school development team, and how this relates to specialist support, including a case study of Cockburn High School in Leeds, who are involved in the current expansion of TaMHS schools.

Implementing the recent guidance on mental health and behaviour in schools
Key points from the recent government guidance in this area were also considered and discussed as to how these relate to ongoing emotional wellbeing and mental health support in schools.
