Abstract of Dr Cantley’s talk

“Social Media have exploded onto the world scene in the last decade.  They take a number of different forms - with new sites emerging and older ones evolving with each passing week.  Although originally thought to be a vehicle for friendships and relationships they have been increasingly recognised as powerful tools within the field of both business and healthcare.  An understanding of social media is now essential for all healthcare professionals, whether or not they are active participants or not.

In this talk we will take a quick look at a variety of media, including Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and of course Twitter.  From a personal perspective we will discus some of the pinnacles and perils encountered in the modern world of social media.”

Dr Cantely shared her own experience of using social media and in particular what as a doctor she get’s out of Twitter.
