Working with people who are suicidal or have been affected by suicide presents us with huge challenges, from managing anxiety and risk to finding ways to think and talk about devastating and unthinkable experiences. If we have the tools to understand and manage the feelings that this work stirs up in us, then we will be more able to think with our service users and their networks about the risks, feelings, and communications that can be involved.
This workshop will be facilitated by Lydia Hartland-Rowe, who is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and Jason B. Kaushal, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist and Adolescent Lead, Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP). The workshop will be based on practical experience, understanding and tools from psychodynamic and other psychological approaches, and recent statistics on suicide across the lifespan. Participants will draw upon their own professional experience to make the workshop relevant and applicable to their work contexts.
