This conference focuses on improving patient care and outcomes for people with Chronic Kidney Disease and implementing the NICE Guidance Chronic Kidney Disease in Adults: assessment and management which was published in August 2021.

“Around 3 million people in the UK have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). There are 40-45,000 premature deaths in the UK every year due to CKD.”

Kidney Care UK

“Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is common, estimated to affect 13% of adults (≥16 years old) in England. People with CKD have a wide range of experiences, from being asymptomatic at early stages to kidney failure with advanced disease. In August 2021, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published NG203, an updated and combined version of three guidelines: “chronic kidney disease in adults: assessment and management,” “chronic kidney disease (stage 4 or 5): management of hyperphosphataemia,” and “chronic kidney disease: managing anaemia.” The guideline was extended to cover the assessment and management of chronic kidney disease in children and young people.”

The BMJ Sept 2021

“The COVID-19 pandemic made 2020 an exceptional year, with many additional constraints placed on the kidney community.”

Patient Reported Experience of Kidney Care in the UK 2020

“Experience of people with CKD (attending kidney clinic but not on dialysis or transplantation) was notably poorer in 2020 compared to 2019 across eight of 13 themes of care, notably for Overall Experience, Support and How the team Treats You. CKD patients reported the worst score within Overall Experience and Fluid & Diet themes compared to other treatment groups.”

Patient Reported Experience of Kidney Care in the UK 2020

“We firmly believe that the opportunities ahead for the renal community to ‘level up’ patient outcomes and further improve care.”
