Updates from today's Controlled Drugs Summit

Conference chair Weeliat Chong Chief Pharmacist Humber NHS FT opens the conference with a focus on 'Controlled Drugs: Monitoring adherence to the 2016 NICE Guidance on Safe Use and Management' discussing:

• monitoring adherence to the NICE recommendations
• implementation in practice
• how can we reduce diversion and abuse?
• current issues and moving forward 

Robert Allan Controlled Drugs Officer and Deborah Dodge Pharmacist Specialist Care Quality Commission continue with a session on 'Overseeing the safer management of controlled drugs' covering:
• assessing and overseeing how health and social care providers manage controlled drugs
• self assessment
• findings from the CQC Annual Report “Safer Management of Controlled Drugs”
• maintaining a safe environment for managing controlled drugs: current trends

• the police role in investigation and monitoring concerns and theft by healthcare professionals
• reporting concerns and incidents involving controlled drugs: ensuring that all staff in your organisation know how to report concerns about diversion and abuse of medicines by fellow colleagues
