Elective Recovery: The Scale of the Challenge ahead

Tim opened his talk by discussing the demand for elective surgery "There is a huge backlog and massive demand for surgery" "What is critical to understand is that there was a pre existing under supply of NHS beds & workforce"  

Tim went on to explain that "elective surgery was cancelled in response to crises during the pandemic" 

"We need to consider how we are going to manage this"

Tim discussed the key recommendations which include "Continue the £1bn elective recovery fund for a further 5 years and Long term - increase the number of hospital beds and Doctors in line with OECD average"

Tim concluded his talk by discussing Patient safety & Staff Wellbeing  by saying- "Ensure staff wellbeing & retention is at the forefront of elective recovery"
