Last Friday we run out 2nd Falls Tech Conference where over 100 healthcare professionals involved in falls prevention came together to discus innovation and learn from expert speakers and sponsors.
Professor Cameron Swift (Consultant Physician, Kings School of Medicine; and Specialist Committee Member, Falls Prevention Quality Standard, NICE) opened the conference giving an update on falls prevention. He shared evidence that intervention can have a postive impact on the numbers of those falling.
In the afternoon, we heard from Mazz Akhtar (Project Manager for Digital Adoption and Transformation in Regulated Care at NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board). She shared insights into the rollout of the AI-powered ‘Nobi’ smart lamps in selected care homes across the region. She shared examples of how these smart lamps have been able to successfully identify falls without false positives, identify the location of any injuries, and understand resident’s sleep patterns and quality.
In her presentation, Mazz highlighted the challenges faced during implementation and explained how care homes were selected and enrolled in the project. She concluded by discussing the future potential for Nobi smart lamps, including reducing the pressure on NHS services (fewer 999 calls and A&E visits), as well as plans to support one-to-one care in new and innovative ways.
We would like to thank all our speakers as well as all the event sponsors
