This conference focuses on improving the recognition, assessment and response to child abuse and neglect including implementing the NICE Quality Standard Statements on Child Abuse and Neglect, and Working Together to Safeguard Children in practice.

Protection from abuse and neglect is a fundamental right for all children. Nothing is more important than keeping children safe.” Nadhim Zahawi MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, 2018

“Everyone who works with children has a responsibility for keeping them safe. No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances and, if children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.” Working together to safeguard children, HM Government 2018

The NICE Quality Standard on Child Abuse and Neglect was published on 12 February 2019. The quality standard covers recognising, assessing and responding to abuse and neglect of children and young people under 18. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.

The conference will also update delegates on national developments including the new Independent Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel

“The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel operates from 29 June 2018. The Panel will consider all notifications of serious incidents and may arrange for any case(s) to be reviewed as a national child safeguarding practice review.” HM Government 2018
