Information Governance Leads: What You Need to Know

Fri, 10 May 2024

Virtual, Online

The purpose and aim of the Masterclass is to learn the principles of Information Governance and work through the different scenarios and look for best practice and processes to help your organisation deliver better Information Governance.

As a whole-day training course, it concentrates on the core principles Information Governance, and has been developed to provide both practical and appropriate training for new and developing Information Governance professionals in a wide range of Organisations. Its particular concentration is on how to run an Information Governance Department and Team.

The masterclass will discuss how Information Governance in healthcare is constantly changing. Following the Health and Care Act 2022 coming in to play, individual organisations are having to review how they work with each other, whether they are NHS Trust, Integrated Care Boards, private organisations, charities, or any other type of related organisation. The formalisation of Integrated Care Systems has made them all work more closely together.

Through it all, there are, however, some things that need to continue:

  • The need for an Information Governance lead.

  • A robust internal reporting structure.

  • A management committee for Information Governance.

  • Completion of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.

  • Investigation of Personal Data Breaches and liaison with the Information Commissioner.

  • Detailed Data Protection by Design, including Data Protection Impact Assessments.

  • Deployment of staff training.

  • Comprehensive understanding of what Personal Data you hold, and what you do with it.

  • The need to know how to respond to services users’ Individual Rights requests.

  • Close working with senior colleagues including the Senior Information Risk Owner and Caldicott Guardian.

This day will cover all of these and more in an interactive workshop where you will learn from the facilitator as much as you will learn from each other.

The day will introduce fundamentals to delegates for them to be embedded in their own organisations based on the latest National Guidance and established best practice from an experienced practitioner in the field. Delegates will have the opportunity to work in small groups, engage in wider discussion, as well as rounding up their day by developing an Action Plan of key learning points to take back to their base.
