Optimising Parkinson's Disease Care: A Practical Roadmap for Collaborative Management Excellence

Thu, 23 May 2024

Virtual, Online

Follow the conference on X #parkinsonscare

This conference brings together a diverse group of healthcare professionals and offers a comprehensive and practical guide for enhancing Parkinson’s disease care through collaboration and excellence in management. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the latest evidence-based practices, cutting-edge research, and strategies to optimise patient outcomes within the NHS. The conference delves into early assessment, multidisciplinary care, patient perspectives, medication management and adherence, non-pharmacological interventions, technological advancements, education in end-of-life care, and research advancements in Parkinson’s disease management. Throughout the day, there will be interactive sessions, small breakout groups, and collaborative exercises, fostering a dynamic learning experience.

The 2022 UK Parkinson’s Audit published in March 2023 stated that it identified some areas of Parkinson’s care which have not improved or have deteriorated including specialised multidisciplinary working, use of standardised practice and evidence-based guidelines, communication and information sharing, medication management and educating the workforce. These areas will be reflected on during the conference.

“The 2017 NICE guidance underlines the multi-disciplinary nature of care in Parkinson’s. The old model of a Consultant Neurologist or Geriatrician sitting in a clinic seeing a list of patients who have waited for many months for the privilege of being seen once and discharged promptly to the care of a GP no longer works. Patients and their carers now are entitled to, and expect, a comprehensive and responsive quality service provided from diagnosis to death.”

Richard Grünewald, Hospital Healthcare Europe

“Parkinson's is a complex and chronic condition. People with Parkinson's should receive the best care in specialist Parkinson's or movement disorder clinics with access to a multidisciplinary team.”
