The Future of the Digital Professional

James Freed
Chief Digital and Information Officer
Health Education England

• What we know about the digital workforce?
• Is it necessary or possible to construct a ‘workforce plan’ for digital professionals?
• What does this mean for me and my future?

James took a tour through the evidence to understand the people element of the digital maturity issue, he said we forget that digital is about people and processes as well as the technology and that we need to think about what it means for individual organisations and individuals themselves. James said we have not kept pace as fast as technology has progressed.  How can we help people learn faster and organisations govern smarter.  He said key is to look at how we leverage change faster.

International Guest Lecture: Chair Louise Wilson AssocFCI

Professor Michael Kidd AM
Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Principal Medical Advisor
Australian Government Department of Health

Prof Kidd shared details of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic in Australia, protecting the most vulnerable including the elderly and those with chronic diseases using telemedicine in primary care.  The system originally planned for a 10 year roll out was rolled out in 10 days to the entire population. This included a big focus on emotional and mental health and the realisation that in person appointments would still be necessary at times.  The implementation ensured people with chronic conditions unrelated to Covid were still being treated.

The morning finished with ePaper presentations and discussion focusing on Using Informatics to Improve Patient Management.  We heard experiences from Guy's and St Thomas', North Manchester, Milton Keynes and Manchester University.
