Nisha and Hannah spoke about Transforming Mental Health Services for Children & Young People during and beyond Covid-19 at today’s conference.

Risk factors for children’s mental health

  • Lack of input from services – outpatient CAMHS, Education, Social Services
  • Isolation
  • Increased vulnerability to online risks
  • Domestic violence
  • Parental/ carer mental health, physical health risks and impact of this
  • Loss / death in family or friends or others
  • Worsening of existing mental illness/ increased needs influenced by pre-existing ND, ID
  • Placement breakdown due to nonavailability of supports/ respite/ increased carer needs
  • Reduced inpatient capacity

They provided some ways to address these risk factors:

Speaking with other service providers such as ambulance, police and social workers.

Making sure your own staff are more aware, upade your polocies and information in regards to virus.

Increase accessibility through setting up CAP and Hub services
