Karen started off the session explaining that pre-ops are the gatekeepers of the surgery, they make sure the patient is physically ready for the surgery and that they have received the most information they can. Throughout her talk she goes through the ins and outs of the POA role including the pitfalls.

She then introduced her colleague Fiona Belfield who gave an overview of the patients journeys pre and post procedure ensuring patient safety. She explained how different day surgery units have different facilities, so it isn’t a one size fits all process.
