The key elements of the Mental Health Crisis Care Model: an NHS England update

Dr Geraldine Strathdee National Clinical Director for Mental Health at NHS England spoke at today’s Improving Mental Health Crisis Care conference on:

  • the key elements of the Mental Health Crisis Care Models

  • setting measurable standards for care and outcomes in crisis care

  • moving forward the agreed NHS England consensus approach to mental health crisis 

Dr Strathdee opened the conference focusing on the Prime Minister's annoucement on the 11th January 2016 for prioritising mental health care through the Life Chances strategy which will include national investment supporting the 5 year Forward View Life Span strategy in:

1. access to parenting programmes

2. relationships

3. helping people to manage money 

4. crisis care

Discussing crisis care services Dr Strathdee spoke of the importance of publicising services, ensuring information is available online and kept uptodate. On prevention Dr Strathdee said it is important to understand causes.  The national priorities for crisis care are:

24/7 crisis resolution home treatement
liaison mental health 
elimiating the use of police cells
