We are pleased to announce the 18th Annual Nurse Clinics Conference. Chaired by Dr Richard Hatchett, Author, Nurse Led Clinics: Practice Issues and Senior Editor, RCNi, Nurse Clinics 2026 will provide specialist nurses, advanced practitioners, nurse consultants and service leads with a valuable opportunity to hear national updates and best practice for working at advanced practice, and setting up, running and developing nurse-led clinics and services across primary, secondary and community care.
The publication of the NMC Principles for Advanced Practice has brought renewed focus to role clarity, professional accountability, autonomous decision-making, governance, employer responsibilities, education, supervision and continuing professional development. These developments are particularly important for nurses working in autonomous roles, including those assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, managing risk and leading nurse-led services.
“Our principles for advanced practice aim to bring clarity and consistency to advanced nursing and midwifery practice across the UK.”
Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2025
The conference takes place at a time of significant national development for nurse-led services. The Fit for the Future: 10 Year Health Plan for England sets out the three major shifts for the NHS — from hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention — and highlights the role of nurses, advanced practitioners and nurse consultants in delivering new models of care. Developments in neighbourhood health, Hospital at Home, virtual wards, remote monitoring and NHS Online also provide opportunities for nurse-led services to improve access, continuity, outcomes and care closer to home.
“In the past few decades, the range of clinical tasks done by nurses has increased to include prescribing, some diagnosis and assessment, management of complex wounds and administration of intravenous therapies. Beyond that, nursing has evolved into a more autonomous role. Advanced nursing and midwifery practitioners provide clinical leadership across the multi-disciplinary team, making independent and complex decisions. Building on these foundations, we will develop advanced practice models for nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals (AHPs) that are aligned to the delivery of our 3 shifts, reflecting their essential leadership roles in a range of settings, including community and public health services.”
