The Caldicott Guardian & The Police: Speaker presentations and updates

Chaired by: Christopher Fincken Caldicott Guardian Marie Curie Former Chair 2012-2017 UK Caldicott Guardian Council & Contributor Putting information sharing at the heart of collaborative working. Information sharing between the police and health services for prevention, early intervention and care purposes.

The conference opens with a presentation from Damion Nickerson Engagement Specialist on 'Information Sharing with the Police' and covers:

  • principles of information sharing between police and health services
  • proactive and reactive information sharing with the police: case studies
  • partnership working, organizational culture and trust
  • the new guidance about information sharing with the police for direct care purposes

In his presentation Damion commented:

'The idea is not to reinvent information sharing but work with the cultural and legislative boundaries for better outcomes.'

'Creating transparency within information sharing for the development of better services - transparency is very important'

'Understand the barriers that people face'

'We need to think about communication at an early point'

'How do police and health workith their local partnership'

This is followed by an update from Wendy McAllister Member Association of Police Controlled Drugs Liaison Officers & Controlled Drugs Liaison Officer Metropolitan Police Service on 'Caldicott and Information Sharing: The Police Perspective' and includes:

  • why do police need to see health records?
  • experiences of a senior police officer
  • understanding the practicalities and implications of information sharing with the police: case studies

Wendy's Biography

Wendy joined the Metropolitan Police in 1990 and was posted to Newham.  After 5 years I joined the Territorial Support Group where my duties were policing large scale public disorder and I also specialised in surveillance policing.  After having a family I became a schools officer in Havering and I joined the Controlled Drugs Liaison team nearly 9 years ago.  I am the secretary of the APCDLO, Association of Police Controlled Drugs Liaison Officers and I help teach on the national course.  Hobbies include walking her dog and gardening.
