CQC releases 4 new draft assessment frameworks

Following the CQC's 'Better regulation, better care' consultation, they have now released 4 draft assessment frameworks for adult social care, mental health care, primary care and community services, and hospitals (secondary and specialist care), moving away from the single assessment framework.

The 5 key questions focusing on safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led will be supported by:

  • key lines of enquiry framed as structured questions that describe what we will look for on our assessments – these replace the current quality statements
  • rating characteristics that describe what outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate care looks like in each sector.

The draft frameworks give clearer, more transparent and consistent judgements about quality across sectors.

Further consultation is open until 12 June 2026
