Ann Slee NHS England Discusses Delivering a Paperless NHS

Ann Slee ePrescribing Lead NHS England discussed Delivering a Paperless NHS at today’s Electronic Prescribing In Hospitals: Moving Forward Conference. Ann’s session provided an update on the work that is underway around the development of digital maturity and road maps with an emphasis on the strategy that is evolving around how we take forward a digital medicines strategy.

In her presentation Ann discussed:

  • where eprescribing should fit in your digital roadmap highlighting how, amongst a range of digital service capabilities, you will ensure clinicians in all care settings will be operating without the need to find or complete paper records by 2018 and that by 2020 all patient and care records will be digital, real-time and interoperable
  • developing effective measures of eprescribing maturity
  • where Electronic Prescribing fits into Electronic Patient Records
  • standardizing eprescribing across hospitals
  • understanding digital maturity
  • how can we use eprescribing to change prescribing behavior
  • moving forward: critical success factors

Ann Slee ePrescribing Lead NHS England Biography:

Ann is a pharmacist, an expert in electronic prescribing and a former clinical lead for ePrescribing for England. She has extensive experience in both the development and deployment of ePrescribing systems. She has also worked at Director of Pharmacy level in the NHS leading the development of clinical pharmacy and the modernization of the service using robotics and health-IT. She holds a number of honorary clinical academic appointments, has held a Health Foundation Leadership Fellowship and been a member of the NHS Evidence and NCAS Advisory Boards. 

She is currently part of the steering group for the NIHR research grant evaluating the introduction of ePrescribing into secondary care and is leading the ePrescribing work underway as part of the Integrated Digital Care Record initiative with NHS England
