Learning Disability Week runs from Monday 16th June with the important theme of "Do you see me?", ensuring that people with a learning disability are seen, heard, valued and supported to live their life to the fullest, just like everyone else.
This week ensures that we all continually recognise, respect and support people with a learning disability; especially during times when employment sectors, social and healthcare systems struggle to support them to the best of their abilities.
"Only 26.7% of adults with a learning disability are employed yet 86% of unemployed people with a learning disability want a paid job." The Royal Mencap Society.
How can you support this year's Learning Disability week?:
Discuss and share the achievements of those with a learning disability in your community; this helps to continually raise awareness and celebrate the amazing stories they have.
Donating or downloading and sharing resources is a great way to voice your support and ensure that lasting change is made. Visit the Royal Mencap Society charity's website, where you can find out more about how you can get involved with the movement.
