Nurse Clinics 2024: Annual Conference

News and updates from today's conference, hearing national updates and best practice for working at advanced practice, and setting up and running nurse led clinics and services in primary, secondary and community care across a number of specialties.

Speaker: Ali Richards

Senior Lecturer, University of Cumbria

I am a nurse, company director and consultant with expert knowledge of leadership and management development. I have started and directed four successful businesses and worked in the whole of the UK and parts of Europe. 

Ali talked about Compassionate Leadership and the importance of having a mentor, she said "You can have more than one", "its so important".

On empathising Ali said "Its important to feel colleagues distress or frustration or joy, but you have to not be overfwhelmed by the emotion, otherwise you will be unable to help"

Ali concluded her talk by saying  "Remember you can't be good at everything".

Ms Linda Nazarko OBE

Speaker: Ms Linda Nazarko OBE

Independent Nurse Consultant, Lecturer and Writer

Linda Nazarko, MSc, PgDip, Pg Cert, BSc (Hons), RN, NIP, OBE, FRCN is consultant nurse at West London NHS Trust. She leads a team of nurse practitioners. 

Linda began her talk by asking "Why should you influence the strategies and plans of your organisation?" she said "As a nurse you are amazing - you have been with patients in their darkest hours" , "We need to be telling people what's really happening and what needs to be done, you need to engage in the politics".

Linda continued to say "This is a good time to start a clinic, waiting lists are through the roof since covid, and we have an ageing population".

Linda also said Be aware when leading change, not everyone will love you",  "Clinics are great places for people to learn"
